UN Advocacy

UN Advocacy
One of ALO’s core areas of work is advocating for the advancement of the rights of Afghan LGBTIQ people at the United Nations.
ALO leads high-level advocacy to ensure LGBTIQ+ people are represented in UN forums, human rights mechanisms, and international policy discussions. We engage with the UN Special Procedures, UN Treaty Bodies, and the UN Human Rights Council to inform protection frameworks and influence international action. Through survivor-centered storytelling, briefings, and submissions, we bring forward evidence that would otherwise remain invisible and ensure decision-makers cannot ignore the realities of our community.
